Redd Velvet is an American blues and soul singer, best known for her unconventional entrance into the music industry and her powerful, earthy voice that is often compared to Mavis Staples and Big Mama Thornton.
Redd was encouraged to pursue a career in classical music during vocal coaching under the tutelage of Mildred Allen, a principal artist with the New York Metropolitan Opera, and acclaimed baritone Andrew Gainey. But her Southern roots brought her back to the blues.
Redd's debut CD " Womanhood 101" was cited as
"a new and exciting chapter in contemporary blues" by Living Blues Magazine.
Lured by her power and passion, audiences testify to being taken on a journey that goes from the church to the jukejoint. Her presence is declared to be electrifying, intoxicating and even spiritual leaving you with a testimony of your own!
